What just happened? Samsung is bringing the One UI brand deployed across its mobile products to select models of its smart TVs. It is a faster than expected rollout and suggests that Samsung is determined to create a more cohesive ecosystem across its product range.

Samsung users first got wind of this change from an announcement the company made at the Samsung Developer Conference earlier this month. The company said it would unify all of its products under the One UI brand, including the software for its TVs and home appliances. It took a surprisingly short time for Samsung to fulfill this promise, as it initially said that this change was scheduled for sometime next year.

The One UI update for TVs is based on the Tizen 8.0 operating system and introduces several new features and interface changes. There is a refreshed home screen with new For You, Live, and Apps tabs, which offer personalized content recommendations and favorite applications. A new Watch Later feature lets viewers save shows and movies to a list for future viewing.

One of the most notable additions is improved integration with other Samsung devices. Users can now use other Samsung products linked to the same account, such as a keyboard and mouse for the TV. The update also enables real-time workout tracking, allowing users to view fitness metrics from their Galaxy Watch directly on the TV screen.

There is a redesigned Game Bar for gamers that offers enhanced features and a more streamlined interface. The update also introduces a new Daily Board feature that offers customizable wallpapers and widgets to the TV's standby screen.

The Settings menu has been overhauled to make frequently accessed options more readily available. Samsung has also standardized app icons for services like Bixby, Gallery, Samsung Internet, and SmartThings to match their appearance on Galaxy phones and tablets.

The update also enhances the Multi Control feature, allowing for file transfers between compatible devices. Users can now view and manage smart camera feeds from devices set up in the SmartThings mobile app directly on their TV.

Accessibility features have been improved, with the Accessibility Shortcut now automatically arranging options based on usage frequency. The on-screen keypad supports more languages, and a paired smartphone's drag-and-drop functionality has been enhanced.

The update is currently rolling out to 2023 models, starting with the S90C OLED TV. Samsung has committed to providing seven years of OS updates for TVs receiving the One UI update – long-term support that mirrors the company's approach with its smartphone lineup.

I have a Samsung S95B TV, which is from 2022, So I'm just outside what they will cover, which is a real shame. I swore I wouldn't buy anymore Samsung products after my experience with this TV, the software is just absolute dog turd.

Well done Samsung, if this update actually improves the experience and you did push it out to my TV, you might have kept a customer, but nope, you are now on the black list for another 10 years.

All TV OS is crap. They want you to buy a new tv every year. Disconnect your tv from the internet, buy a mini pc and install linux on it.

IMO Google TV or Apple TV are the two best TV interfaces out there.

I would use a PC with linux on it if apps were there. The Web Versions are horrible, lacking features and qualities. 4K/HDR and Surround Sound for example. Some services dont even have a web version of their streaming app.

Plus a solid remote experience is very important.

That being said Samsung and LG have had horrible Smart TV UI's forever. Sony has not only been the brand to get for picture quality but also user interface for a long time now. Hisense is another brand with some of the best looking TV's and they too are full on google tv for a good reason, it is the best. I just picked up one of their U8 TV's for my office, it looks just as good if not better than my Sony X95k TV in the living room. Same great interface.

I guess I use tvs differently. My surround is two loud speakers, for remote I use keyboard with touch trackpad or mouse with thumb trackpad and for "streaming service" I use my own raspberry torrent box.

From what I can glean from reading about the modern-day 'smart' tv -I will be keeping my 'dumb' tv until it self-destructs. After which I will stick with my pc monitor, or books. What a s****y world we live in nowadays...........ads,ads,ads,ads,ads,ads,ads,...............that's all business boils down to? Why the f*** isn't there government regulation to control these corporate leeches!!??

Yuck.. SmartTV's are there to spy on you and report back and serve ad's. They are getting completely out of control and unregulated. I don't care how "advanced" (lawl) its interface claims. Never, ever ever connect these things to the internet. Use an Apple TV, console, PC etc.. instead.
